Thanks to our diversified business model, which is aimed at providing values such as safety, stability and continuity, the Domestic Clients Business Unit was able to gain new clients in a turbulent market environment.

Surveys have documented our clients' high level of satisfaction.

It was precisely under such demanding operating conditions that our active approach to client care and attention proved its validity, as corresponding surveys in Liechtenstein and Switzerland revealed. 90 percent of clients ranked the advice provided by LLB staff as very good; 89 percent also assessed LLB services as being very good. 83 percent of Bank Linth clients were very satisfied on the whole, which was why 78 percent would recommend the bank to their friends and acquaintances. Particular praise was reserved for reliability: 98 percent of the persons questioned gave us the highest score for this attribute. Bank Linth clients assigned the bank similarly high marks for its competence in financing and pension provisioning matters.

Active market penetration and enhancement of advisory competence

In the 2008 business year we recruited additional client advisors for private banking, thus significantly strengthening our market presence. To further enhance their advisory competence, these employees were given new comprehensive training in client care methods, both at the LLB and at Bank Linth.

Furthermore, we continued to invest in new products and services in both our home markets.

Expansion of private financial planning and corporate pension provisioning

We are continually expanding our services in private financial planning and corporate pension provisioning.

We intend to establish ourselves as the specialists for private and corporate pension provisioning in the Swiss / Liechtenstein economic area and are therefore constantly expanding our product offering. Back in 2005 we launched the LLB Liechtenstein Pension Fund Foundation. By the end of 2008, it looked after 260 companies with 2'230 employees and administered assets totalling CHF 146 million.

In the year under report, we founded in cooperation with Swiss Re the life insurance company Elips Life AG. It opens up new perspectives for the LLB Group in private and corporate pension provisioning. Elips Life AG is concentrating on collective life insurance business for private individuals and companies. The LLB Group and Swiss Re each hold a 48-percent equity stake in the company.

At the beginning of 2009, the LLB Group also entered the Swiss pensions market. In January it took over the business management of the ALVOSO pension fund, which has over 1'000 insured persons in 220 associated companies in the Zurich and Linth regions. This partnership cements the long-term cooperation between ALVOSO and Bank Linth.

Consolidation of leading position in mortgage lending business

In our home markets we continue to be one of the leading providers of mortgage loans. In 2008, we attained an impressive result in this business. Our proximity to clients and our good local expertise enabled us to maintain the quality of our loan portfolio at a high level in spite of the economic slowdown.

Optimisation of operating efficiency

Standard transactions are increasingly carried out via our call centre, internet banking or ATMs.

We are continuing to follow the trend towards processing standard transactions through cost-efficient platforms. The aim is to relieve our client advisors of routine tasks and having to provide telephone information. For this purpose we have, among other measures, extended our call centre's catalogue of services. At our bank branches, we are concentrating increasingly on supplying our clients with comprehensive advice and service in financial matters.

In Balzers we installed a further automated teller machine for our clients. The LLB Group now provides a total of 15 ATMs in Liechtenstein and 28 in Switzerland. During 2008 we gained about 400 new clients a month for our internet banking system. We offer new clients a free of charge ibanking course at the LLB.
