«Liechtenstein is full of surprises for me. The people here are able to think a little more clearly and flexibly.»

«Mexico's traditions are very varied, encompassing both Indian and European customs. That's what makes Mexico so colourful.»

The soul of a country is reflected in its traditions, culture and customs. A rich and varied cultural heritage finds expression in a thriving cultural scene. The face of a region is largely shaped by the diverse forms of a population's living connection with its history. A conscious awareness of its own heritage also shapes a company. With almost 150 years of tradition we are the longest established financial institution in the Principality of Liechtenstein. We are your partner, for generations.

Liechtenstein is a tranquil country.

Gabriela Cortés. A Mexican living in Liechtenstein. One may wonder whether that can really work. But it does. It works remarkably well. Despite the differences between the two cultures, they also have things in common. Gabriela Cortés, who studied communication science and works as a journalist, says, «One major thing that connects Liechtenstein with Mexico is religion. The traditional holidays could not be more different, though. For example, All Souls' Day (Día de los Muertos) is a festival in Mexico. You cannot believe how colourful and vibrant it is. Poetry is recited, plays are staged and people talk about the connection between life and death. We eat at the gravesides and celebrate with the dead.» Tradition is very important in Liechtenstein too, as can be seen in the various clubs, societies and everyday life. Gabriela Cortés, who sings in Eschen Church Choir, loves music more than anything else. She really enjoys keeping the traditions of sacred and secular music alive. She also likes the peace and quiet and the contemplation it fosters. If Liechtenstein were a garden, Gabriela Cortés philosophizes, it would be a peaceful place where everything grows and blossoms. Such a garden would be good for both herself and her children.

Mexico, on the other hand, is a very vibrant country.

Gabriela Cortés's Mexican garden would look somewhat different. «There'd be lots of colourful flowers in bloom, even some bushes with sharp thorns and, to everyone's surprise, birds nesting in them. Gardens in Mexico are overgrown. They are wild. Everything grows in them», she enthuses and adds, «They are also places of culture. Including music. Children in Mexico are taught from an early age to make music a part of their lives. I love Mexican music. It's diverse, vibrant and sometimes very loud. It makes you want to dance.» In contrast, Liechtenstein is a tranquil country. She adds that she feels at home in two different worlds. She has one foot here and one foot there. What Gabriela Cortés loves most of all about Mexico is the great diversity. She is a mestiza, through and through, and proud of it. That's what makes her who she is and enriches her life. Variety is the spice of life. It adds excitement and ever-changing scripts to her daily telenovela. This is what they mean by life there.

Liechtenstein: various very active clubs and societies are the cornerstone of cultural life in Liechtenstein. Great value is placed on lively cultural exchange throughout the whole region. This can also be seen in the musical spectrum, which extends from classical and choral music to include a wide range of contemporary sounds.
Mexico: the music of the mariachis binds the people of Mexico together. The traditional costumes of these strolling musicians are as colourful and vibrant as everyday life. Light, earthy colours and gigantic murals dominate the cityscape.
